‘Remaining silent puts blood on our hands’

First the City Council abolished boards and commissions comprised of community members. Now, the Council wants to take away the right of Durango citizens to propose a resolution pertaining to religion and international issues.

This is another method to eliminate the voice of the public. It seems to me that the Council would just rather not take the time to represent the people who voted for them.

We are taxpayers and we are witnessing a genocide supported by our government. We have the right to petition our local government to express our values. Remaining silent while a genocide is happening before our very eyes puts blood on our hands. It’s everybody’s business, including councilors who are supposed to represent us.

Please, councilors, do not pass this resolution that you are considering that provides another path of silencing the public.
