Tuesday, March 21

2:41 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of North Elm Street on suspicion of DUID, second-degree introduction of contraband, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to present proof of insurance and driving with vision obstructed. A used hypodermic needle was found in the man’s pocket, and a small jar of marijuana and two burnt marijuana cigarettes were found in his vehicle.

10:27 a.m.: A man was issued a summons in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of an open container violation and possession of alcohol in the park.

11:23 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant for failure to appear at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

12:29 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1400 block of North Mildred Road on suspicion of trespassing at a residence.

9 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of South Ash Street on a warrant for failure to appear and on suspicion of driving under suspension.

Wednesday, March 22

2:34 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 1300 block of East Montezuma Avenue on a warrant for failure to appear.

10:46 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of an open container violation after a woman reported that someone matching his description had been threatening people with a knife. During the responding officers’ investigation, they spoke to another woman who said she had seen him pull a knife out after knocking on an apartment door, but had put it away when no one answered. The man was found with an open container of vodka in his pocket and was intoxicated.

11:22 a.m.: A man was issued a summons outside the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on suspicion of disturbing the peace and being intoxicated in a roadway.

2:27 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Wal-Mart, 1835 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting and on a felony warrant from La Plata County. Store employees claimed she had attempted to leave the store with a shopping cart full of $995.71 worth of items for which she hadn’t paid. They also claimed there was a man with her who also stole several items, but he had left the scene by the time police arrived.

4:43 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of South Market Street on suspicion of violating a protection order and on a warrant for failure to appear.

9:27 p.m.: A man turned himself in at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., and was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear.

Thursday, March 23

10:48 a.m.: A man was arrested at a residence in the 600 block of South Chestnut Street on a felony warrant from La Plata County.

1:52 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 800 block of East Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear.

8:59 p.m.: A man was arrested outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear.

10:30 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of South Ash Street on a warrant for sexual assault from Manchester, Connecticut, after being pulled over for a defective headlight. While being arrested, he began yelling at the arresting officers that he wanted to die, and while handcuffed in the backseat of a police vehicle, he managed to get a knife out from somewhere on his person and start cutting his wrists. The officers were able to get the knife away from him quickly, and he was treated for injuries at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to the jail.

Friday, March 24

3:48 p.m.: Two men were served with warrants at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., for failure to appear.

6:06 p.m.: A man was arrested in Centennial Park, 800 E. Montezuma Ave., on suspicion of disturbing the peace after another man claimed he was trying to pick a fight with him.

8:03 p.m.: A man and a woman were arrested outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., on warrants for failure to appear.

8:31 p.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of an open container violation and being intoxicated in a roadway in the 10 block of East First Street. The main claimed he had been escorting a woman to her car out of Blondie’s Trophy Room.

Saturday, March 25

1:22 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of East Fourth Street on a local felony warrant and on suspicion of DUI, driving without proof of insurance, possession of drug paraphernalia, underage consumption of marijuana, failing to signal as required and disregarding a stop sign. Used and unused needles, glass pipes and containers of methamphetamine were found in his vehicle.

1:25 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Wal-Mart, 1835 E. Main St., on suspicion of trespassing and shoplifting. Store employees claimed she had stolen several makeup items and a can of Red Bull, valued at $42.39 total.

5:13 p.m.: A man was arrested outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of disturbing the peace after witnesses claimed he had kicked another man in the face.

11:18 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 900 block of East Main Street on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after she was pulled over for driving with impaired vision due to cracks in her windshield. A syringe, a glass pipe and about 1.4 grams of methamphetamine were found in her vehicle.
