Wednesday, March 8

2:08 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 500 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of first-degree burglary and second-degree assault with a deadly weapon. A neighbor reported the woman had come to her apartment with a shovel looking for her boyfriend, who she believed had made a pornographic video with the neighbor. When the neighbor didn’t let her in, she reportedly forced her way into the apartment and hit the neighbor twice on the head with the shovel.

10 a.m.: A woman received a summons at Wal-Mart, 1835 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting. Store employees reported she had stolen a box of Zantac.

10:04 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 600 block of North Elm Street on suspicion of third-degree assault, domestic violence and child abuse after he told police he had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend and her children.

6:28 p.m.: A man was arrested at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on three warrants for failure to appear after police responded to a report of a fight outside the store. Responding officers were unable to determine whether a fight actually occurred.

8:43 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear.

9:09 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of East Main Street on suspicion of a DUI, driving with a canceled license and failing to display lights when required, as well as on a felony warrant for trespassing and theft. He was reportedly smoking a marijuana cigarette in the car when he was pulled over.

Thursday, March 9

9:32 a.m.: A man was issued a summons at City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of an open container violation and possession of alcohol in the park.

11:20 a.m.: A man reported an incident of possible criminal mischief in the 100 block of North Chestnut Street. The rear window of his vehicle, valued at $179, had been broken. The case remains under investigation.

12:16 p.m.: A man was issued a summons at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting. A pink cell phone charger and cord, valued at $13.98 total, were stolen and recovered.

7:08 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear.

7:17 p.m.: A man was issued a summons at Centennial Park, 800 E. Montezuma Ave., on suspicion of an open container violation and possession of alcohol in the park.

7:29 p.m.: A man turned himself in at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., and was arrested on an active felony warrant.

Friday, March 10

12:34 p.m.: A man was issued a summons at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting. Store employees reported he had stolen some chicken and Mountain Dew, valued at $5.98 total, from the deli.

3:38 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on suspicion of violating a protection order.

4:09 p.m.: A man was arrested outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear after a store employee reported him and another man for refusing to leave the area. The man was also charged with mistreatment of a K9 and resisting arrest after he reportedly tried to fight the arresting officer and deliberately agitated a K9 dog that was in his vehicle. The arresting officer exposed him to a stun gun during the arrest while he was banging his head against the vehicle’s partition.

4:46 p.m.: A man was issued a summons at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting. Store employees reported he had stolen two 20-ounce cans of beer, valued at $4.98 total.

6:05 p.m.: A man was arrested at Wal-Mart, 1835 E. Main St., on a felony warrant and a misdemeanor warrant. Police were called when a fugitive recovery agent started handcuffing the man in the store parking lot, and witnesses reported it as a fight.

11:05 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 500 block of East Second Street on suspicion of violating bail bond conditions.

Saturday, March 11

12:44 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of South Ash Street on suspicion of DUI, failing to use a turn signal and making a left turn from the wrong lane.

2:24 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 200 block of East Second Street on a warrant for failure to appear after police were called to her residence for a disturbance. Another woman claimed she had been kicked out of the suspect’s house for moving furniture around after she was invited to stay for a while.

3:31 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 800 block of South Cedar Street on suspicion of trespassing after the owners of a house reported he was banging on their door and trying to enter the residence. The man, who appeared to be intoxicated, said he believed he was at his own house.

6:57 a.m.: A man and woman reported a vehicle break-in in the 2100 block of La Plata Place. A purse valued at $300 and a wallet valued at $30 containing $60 in cash were stolen. About $100 of damage was done to a vehicle window. The case remains under investigation.

11:23 a.m.: A man reported a vehicle break-in in the 900 block of North Sligo Street. A fly rod valued at $50, a camouflage bag valued at $70, a pool stick valued at $150, a carrying case valued at $30 and a pair of sunglasses valued at $15 were stolen from the unlocked vehicle. The case, which responding officers believe was connected to the earlier vehicle break-in, remains under investigation.

3:55 p.m.: A man was arrested at Centennial Park, 800 E. Montezuma Ave., on suspicion of violating a protection order and obstruction of justice after he reportedly tried to punch another man while intoxicated.

4:05 p.m.: A man reported a vehicle break-in in the 1700 block of Center Street. Miscellaneous electrician tools in a black bag, valued at $100 total, and a battery-powered Makita combo tool set, valued at $400, were stolen from the bed of a pickup truck. The case remains under investigation.

10:18 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after a vehicle in which she was a passenger was pulled over for a traffic stop. About 20 grams of methamphetamine was reportedly found in the woman’s purse, along with several marijuana products and paraphernalia. The male driver of the car was cited for a broken taillight.

11:04 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1300 block of East Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear after being pulled over for speeding.

Sunday, March 12

1:24 a.m.: A woman received a summons in the 100 block of East First Street on suspicion of DUI and failure to stop at a stop sign.

1:34 a.m.: A woman received a summons in the 500 block of East Main Street on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, speeding 10 to 19 mph over the speed limit and making an improper left turn.

9:18 p.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear and possession of drug paraphernalia, and a woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving under suspension, violation of bail bond conditions, false reporting to authorities and failure to use a turn signal in the 900 block of East Seventh Street. A methamphetamine pipe was found on the man.

Monday, March 13

1:09 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 100 block of South Market Street on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine, possession of weapons as a previous offender, driving under revocation and failure to signal as required. A .22 caliber rifle and a case of bullets were found in his vehicle, along with a small amount of meth.

10:23 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 600 block of East Main Street on two warrants for failure to appear.

2:23 p.m.: Three women were arrested at Travelodge, 1120 E. Main St., on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance after amphetamine, methamphetamine, marijuana and various drug paraphernalia were found in the hotel room where they were staying.

Tuesday, March 14

2:31 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on a warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.

4:26 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 500 block of South Madison Street on a warrant for failure to appear and on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia. A methamphetamine pipe was found on her at the time of arrest.

4:54 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road, on a warrant for failure to appear.
