6:12 p.m.: A man was cited for a dangerous dog violation in the 200 block of South Elm Street after a neighbor said his dog had bitten the neighbor’s dog. The neighbor did not want to press charges.

Sunday, June 11

8:03 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 600 block of Wyoming Street on suspicion of second-degree assault, domestic violence, menacing and obstruction of telephone services after his girlfriend claimed he had hit and choked her until she passed out. A gun was also found in the couple’s vehicle, and the woman reportedly claimed the man had threatened to kill her with it. She also said he had taken away her cell phone so she couldn’t call for help.

4:39 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 500 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of harassment. Another man said he had left him repeated text messages and voicemails saying he was going to shoot him. The man who received the threats said he thought they were on account of a woman he was dating. The suspect said he had a dispute with the man over a stolen bicycle.

9:19 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 300 block of South Broadway on suspicion of disturbing the peace after a woman claimed he had charged her while she was in her front yard and started yelling and cursing at her. He reportedly refused to sign the summons when police gave it to him and started screaming at the responding officers. His ex-wife, who took custody of him after the incident, said he was acting aggressive because he was off his medication.

9:57 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 20 block of South Broadway on a warrant for failure to comply in a local misdemeanor case after employees at La Casita restaurant claimed she had failed to pay for her meal. The restaurant did not press charges.

Monday, June 12

8:04 a.m.: Police responded to a report of trespassing and theft in the 1600 block of Aldridge Road. A man claimed his girlfriend’s son’s bicycle, valued at $500, had been stolen from her vehicle the previous night. The case remains under investigation.

9:51 a.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 N. Roger Smith Ave., on suspicion of theft and resisting arrest after a woman claimed he had asked to borrow her phone and then left the scene when she asked him to return it. The man was treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital for a minor injury to his left ear before he was transported to the jail.

9:54 a.m.: Police responded to a report of trespassing in the 100 block of South Washington Street. A woman claimed someone had entered her backyard, knocked over an owl ornament and entered her vehicle, rummaging through it and opening the glove box. She said nothing was missing except the title to the vehicle. The case remains under investigation.

12:27 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Colorado Welcome Center, 928 E. Main St., on suspicion of menacing, disorderly conduct, obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest. Welcome Center employees reported he was yelling and swinging a baton around in the parking lot, and had thrown it at an employee who confronted him. When police arrived, the man reportedly yelled profanities at them and tried to run away, leading a responding officer to tackle him to the ground. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication. The object he had been waving was later identified as a muscle roller.

12:38 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a break-in at the old Montezuma-Cortez High School building on 206 W. Seventh St. School district employees reported someone had broken a padlock on the outside of a door and removed a bolt from the inside. Five copper pipes had been cut from somewhere in the school, but had not been removed. Another pipe had been damaged. The case remains under investigation.

Tuesday, June 13

6:57 p.m.: A woman was arrested at the Cork and Bottle liquor store, 443 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting. Store employees claimed she had stolen a bottle of Schnapps.

7:19 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of trespassing.

8:29 p.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on two warrants for failure to appear on La Plata County misdemeanor charges. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to the jail, due to severe intoxication.

9:39 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Recreation Center on suspicion of disturbing the peace after employees reported he had urinated on the newspaper machines outside the building. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, due to severe intoxication.
