Horizon, a band based in Mancos, will host a show Friday at Mancos Brewing Co. in celebration of the release of their first CD.
The release party runs 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the brewery, 484 U.S. Highway 160 East Frontage Road.
Horizon is composed of members Yves LF Giraud (lead singer, songwriter and guitarist), Linda Gimble Baker (singer, flutist and saxophonist) and Isaac James Kimbro (vocals and drums).
The band formed in August 2022 and now has created more than 75 songs, according to Giraud.
While Giraud is the one behind the lyrics of Horizon’s songs, Baker and Kimbro come up with many of the musical arrangements, “adding their magical, musical ideas.”
When it comes to the band’s style, a genreless vibe may be the best way to describe them.
“In terms of style, although difficult to describe for me, I think we combine R&B, funk, rock and folk, among other styles,” Giraud said. “Honestly, we’re not sure, and I think we like it that way. It gives us a sense of individuality as a band.”
This individuality and ability to write their own music makes the albums release even more special to the band members. They hope the five-song album is the first of many.
“This album means a lot for the band not only for being the first one, hopefully of many, but also because we feel it is a great studio quality representation of what we do live, the way we interact on stage musically and the energy we share with the audience through our songs,” Giraud said. “We have a great connection as musicians, but also as individuals. And as many of our fans and friends tell us, it shows. With this first album, we have tried our best to portrait the love we put in what we do.”
The show will also feature special guests Kevin Frazier on electric guitar, Carrie Schneider on keys and Mr. Bill on bass.
“We are blessed to have them join us, and we can’t wait to share that special day with them,” Giraud said.
People who attend the CD release party can expect a fun time filled with community and music at one of the places that gave Horizon their start.
“We have been quite excited to finally be able to release this album, and we plan to have a lot of fun with this show,” Giraud said. “The Mancos Brewing Company has been of great support to us, giving us one of our very first shows back in 2022, and a monthly residency every first Friday. We could not think of a better place to do this CD release.”
CDs and other merchandise will be available to purchase.
“I’d like to add how grateful we are for our amazing Montezuma supporters, and beyond,” Giraud said. “Playing all original music can be disheartening at times. We’ve been received with great enthusiasm from Day One, and we could not be more thankful.”
The band is making plans for a full-length album, inspired by the support they have received from fans.
“We can’t wait to see what’s to come next,” Giraud said.
