The Dolores National FFA Organization chapter was recently awarded a $4,400 grant as part of the nationwide Grants for Growing program sponsored by Tractor Supply Company, according to Dolores FFA teacher Alison Brown and an FFA news release.
The program awards grants to FFA chapters in support of the growth and development of agricultural education projects. The release specifically pointed to chapter engagement activities that “enhance the classroom experiences for students.”
Dolores FFA will use the grant for the creation of Agricultural Leadership Lessons in a Box, which are being built by Dolores FFA’s high school seniors.
This project will allow the seniors to develop hands-on lessons that build “agricultural knowledge and literacy.” The Leadership Lessons in a Box will be able to be utilized by teachers in their classrooms.
“This experience will allow seniors to strengthen their leadership and communication skills while serving as mentors and role models for younger students,” information from Brown said. “By connecting high school seniors with younger generations, Dolores FFA hopes to spark an interest in agriculture and build a stronger understanding of its importance in our communities.”
Through the program, FFA chapters in 47 states received a total of $900,000.
