I have read that recently our Republican members of Congress have increased the frequency of displays of patriotism.

That has caused me to remember a quote from Samuel Johnson, who was an important figure in 18th century England and whose best work was “A Dictionary of the English Language.” The quote is, “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.”
