Western furniture, decor shop opens in Cortez

Western home decor shop opens in Cortez

A new Western furniture and home decor shop has opened at 90 N. Mildred Road in Cortez.

Tenley and Mark Rees have opened the store called “... living” in the former Let it Grow greenhouse space, across from the Cortez Welcome Center on N. Mildred Road.

The shop is a combination of various online retail ventures Mark Rees has operated for many years. People can find western-style furniture, clothing and art, as well as farmhouse and Christian items.

“There’s something for everyone,” Tenley Rees said.

The space now resembles a cozy western home, with reclaimed wood walls and a tin ceiling. Many of the items in the store might not be found anywhere else in the area, Rees said. Shoppers have been glad to see the store open, she said.

“There has been such a positive reaction from the locals,” she said.

Rees, a former Cortez teacher, wants the space to be part of the community. She is working with local artists to feature their works in her shop, such as wood carvings and oil paintings.

After winter is over, she plans to develop the yard outside the store so people can hold special events in the space.

“That’s really important, to be connected with the community,” Rees said “I wanted this to be more than a store.”

Living is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 516-0150.
