Event is meant to bring members of the community together to engage in storytelling

The Sunflower Theatre in Cortez will bring back the popular Raven Narratives storytelling series on Friday, March 8, with the theme “(re)emergence.”

The series will then visit the Durango Arts Center the following night, Saturday, March 9.

All who are interested in telling their story are welcome to inquire about taking part in the event. Stories are supposed to be true, personal stories that are told without notes, according to organizers.

Stories must also have to do with the theme “(re)emergence.”

“The Raven Narratives seeks to connect us with each other and the places where we live and play by featuring people of all colors, ages and perspectives sharing their authentic experiences through dynamic storytelling in front of a live audience,” organizers said.

Guidelines for the event say that the stories must be true and told in the first person, as they are the speaker’s personal experience.

The group also emphasized that stories must not be rants, endorsements, soapboxes or preaching, and all stories must be told in 8 to 10 minutes.

Those who wish to participate and tell their story at the Raven Narratives must email ravennarratives@gmail.com with a brief synopsis of the story, ideally around one or two paragraphs detailing the story to be told.

After the email has been submitted, the Raven Narratives team will contact those interested to schedule a time to meet so the story can be told to ensure that it fits the theme and mood of the event.

“If you are one of the storytellers chosen for the event, we will also schedule a workshop with you to help you make your story shine,” organizers said.

The stories will also be featured on a podcast episode that will be produced following the event. Those who wish to view past podcast episodes that feature stories told at past Raven Narratives events can visit the podcast’s hosting platform on Soundcloud www.soundcloud.com/raven-narratives.
