Texas bluegrass band to perform in Dolores

Brewery to host March 3 show
Wood and Wire, a bluegrass band from Austin, Texas, will play the Dolores River Brewery on March 3.

Austin-based bluegrass band Wood & Wire will play the Dolores River Brewery on March 3.

The band’s recent album “North of Despair” was nominated for a 2018 Grammy for Best Bluegrass Record. Their style combines “hard country songwriting with high-octane bluegrass instrumentation,” according to the band’s website.

Wood and Wire have become respected for their ferocious live shows, and many songs are based on life experiences living in the deep Texas countryside.

A highlight of the group is the interplay between mandolinist Billy Bright and banjo player Trevor Smith, a sound that is as much “country funk as it is Monroe and Scruggs.”

The band’s upbeat original songs is “music of a vintage variety, but it still manages to sound fresh and vibrant in a contemporary context,” according to a review by Bluegrass Today.
