Slavens to celebrate 70th anniversary in Cortez on June 2

Slavens True Value Hardware store in Cortez will celebrate its 70th anniversary on June 2, , and invites members of the community to celebrate along with them.

“We are third generation,” Slavens’ Karla Robson said. “We have been True Value since 1969. We have been family-owned for the whole 70 years.”

The celebration will run all day June 2, with food provided to customers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot behind the store. They will serve hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, potato salad and baked beans. End of Trail Catering will cook the meat.

Vendors will hold demonstrations and display other items for attendees. Vendors include Makita, Milwaukee, Durango Glove, Boise Cascade and Cameron Ashley.

Sales in all departments will last all weekend.

“We are proud to have served our community for 70 years. We look forward to being your favorite hardware store for 70 more. We have won Best Hardware store in town every year since 2013,” Robson said.

“Our phone number used to be two,” she said.

All members of the community are invited to attend.
