Thursday, Feb. 29

9:39 a.m. An officer took a report for stolen property in the 1200 block of Montelores Avenue.

1:47 p.m. An officer responded to a call about dogs being off leash at Montezuma Park, 15 W. Montezuma Ave. The owner, a woman, was arrested on an out-of-county warrant.

4:30 p.m. An officer took a report for theft after a woman reported that she requested cash back from a register at a self-checkout machine at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., but forgot to take her cash from the machine.

9:16 p.m. A man was arrested on seven warrants and cited with a violating a protection order that states he shall not possess or consume alcohol or controlled substances at 10 S. Market St.

9:44 p.m. An officer responded to a call involving a combative male in the lobby at the National 9 Inn, 301 W. Main St. The man was arrested on a warrant and cited with criminal mischief of less than $1,000 for suspicion of damaging the door of the inn.

10:48 p.m. A man was arrested on a warrant from Texas outside Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.

Friday, March 1

4:20 p.m. An officer took a report for a hit-and -run in the parking lot of City Market, 508 E. Main St.

5:31 p.m. A man was arrested at 625 E. Third St. on suspicion of violating a restraining protection order and violating a protection order that states he shall not consume or possess alcohol.

Saturday, March 2

2:11 a.m. An officer responded to a report for a property damage call at Denny’s, 2059 E. Main St. While investigating, the officer and made contact with a vehicle that he said he observed fail to use turn signals and drive through a stop sign. The driver was arrested and cited with DUI and released into the custody of a third party.

9:24 a.m. A man from the 300 block of S. Lindon Street was issued a never-expiring no-trespass order, and was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, criminal mischief and trespassing for damages he caused in the 900 block of Balsam Street.

3:59 p.m. An officer took a report for theft from two sheds and a pull behind trailer were broken into on a property in the 1400 block of Cochita Drive. Items reportedly taken were various tools and machinery.

Monday, March 4

7:53 a.m. An officer took a report for a stolen license plate from a man who noticed his rental vehicle was missing the license plate at the Super 8 Motel, 505 E. Main St.

10:34 a.m. An officer took a report for a ring that was lost during an event at the Cortez Chamber of Commerce, 31 W. Main St.

12:31 p.m. An officer responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle that was moving parking spots, but not leaving the parking lot at the Beech Street Preschool, 510 N. Beech St. A man in the car had an active warrant out for his arrest. He was arrested and cited with unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing, or sale of a schedule IV controlled substance for fentanyl pills and methamphetamine that were found on his person.

Tuesday, March 5

1:08 p.m. An officer at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., took a report from a man who said his silver trailer was stolen from the Walmart parking lot, 1835 E. Main St.

1:47 p.m. A man was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road.

6:57 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of trespassing, interfering with an officer, and intoxicated pedestrian in the roadway outside of the American Legion, 320 Harrison St.

Wednesday, March 6

12:25 a.m. A man was arrested at 500 S. Cedar St. on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, failure to stop as required at a stop sign, and failure to drive in a single lane.

12:25 p.m. A man was arrested for violating a protection order that states he shall not consume or possess alcohol down the street from the Piñon Project, 210 E. Main St.

7:53 p.m. A man who punched a truck window at the Post Office, 35 S. Beech St., was arrested on two warrants.

10:07 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a man lying in the road at 1000 N. Mildred Road. The man has gained a reputation for taking advantage of Cortez Police by using the tactic of getting others to call 911 so that he can ask for a courtesy ride home like a taxi service. Officers refused his request at the time of the report, the man reportedly then proceeded to walk in the roadway while vehicles swerved to avoid him. The man was then arrested on suspicion of disturbing the peace, and given a courtesy ride to the Montezuma County Detention Center.
