Saturday, Oct. 21

1:28 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of West Seventh Street on suspicion of violating a protection order and violating bail bond conditions. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication, but he reportedly struggled and tried to kick the arresting officers while they were transporting him to the emergency room.

1:52 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 400 block of West Seventh Street. A woman claimed someone had stolen her propane tank, valued at $300, along with the 100 gallons of propane it contained, which were valued at $45 total. The case remains under investigation.

11:49 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 10 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, child abuse and failing to drive in a single lane. When she was pulled over, she reportedly was able to perform roadside maneuvers as a sober person would, but when officers asked if there was anything illegal in her vehicle, she gave them a bottle of methadone pills. Officers also found several new and used hypodermic needles in the car, one of them loaded with what officers believed to be meth. A young girl was reportedly riding in the car when it was pulled over.

Sunday, Oct. 22

1:20 a.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of DUI and DUI per se at Angel’s End Zone, 309 N. Broadway, after police reportedly saw her driving a car in the bar’s parking lot with another woman clinging to the hood.

2 a.m.: A woman was arrested near the intersection of Linden and Main Streets on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, driving under restraint, failing to stop at a stop sign and making a left turn into the wrong lane. She reportedly said she had been drinking at Angel’s End Zone. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

4:10 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of West Main Street on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se and weaving. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

10:22 a.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on suspicion of trespassing. He and another man were reportedly using the computers inside the library, even though it was closed. Responding officers reported the front doors had not been secured, and the sign on the door still said “Open.” The man, who had previously been trespassed from the library, was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication. The other man was issued a trespass notice.

Monday, Oct. 23

6:21 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting and reckless driving at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed she had stolen $25.89 worth of clothing and candy, then almost collided with another vehicle while leaving the parking lot. There were reportedly two young children in her vehicle when she was pulled over.

Tuesday, Oct. 24

11:05 a.m.: A man was arrested outside the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

3:09 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., after employees claimed she had tried to steal a gallon of milk, toys, a container of chicken thighs and several children’s masks, valued at $17.26 total.

5 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after he requested a report of an incident in which he was involved.

8:10 p.m.: A man and a woman were arrested in the 200 block of North Park Street after police contacted them for walking in the road while apparently intoxicated. The man reportedly gave a false name at first. The woman was arrested on a La Plata County warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge, and the man was arrested on La Plata and Montezuma County warrants for failure to appear, and on suspicion of criminal impersonation, violating a protection order and domestic violence. Both suspects were medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

11:08 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 400 block of East North Street on suspicion of driving an uninsured vehicle, driving an unregistered vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was pulled over because his car did not have license plates. Five hypodermic syringes were found in the man’s pocket, and a broken glass pipe with suspected meth residue in it was found on the floor of his vehicle.
