Mesa Elementary donates peanut butter and jelly to food pantry

In exchange for food for pantry, students wore pajamas to school
Peanut butter and jelly donated Wednesday to the Good Samaritan Center’s Food Pantry by students at Mesa Elementary.

Mesa Elementary School collected about 200 jars of peanut butter and jelly for the Good Samaritan Center’s Food Pantry.

The food was delivered by Brittany Forkner, president of the PTO at Mesa Elementary at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

In exchange for the PB&J, students who participated were allowed to wear their PJs to school on Wednesday.

“We had found out about a need for peanut butter at the pantry through someone I know who is a regular volunteer there,” Forkner said in an email. “It was a complete surprise to their director Kristen when I called her on Wednesday morning to set up a time to drop off the boxes.”

About 205 students participated, according to Robert Laymon, Mesa Elementary dean.
