Mancos holiday art shows begin tonight

Galleries, market to host 100-plus artists

Mancos’s Old-Fashioned Christmas festivities will come to a head this weekend with multiple artistic events planned by the Creative District.

The weekend will begin around 5 p.m. Friday with a Grand Winter Nights event, and continue on Saturday with a holiday arts market at the intersection of Main Street and Grand Avenue. HelloZark Studio will host a three-day pop-up gallery featuring the debut of a new group of Western artists known as the Back Roads Collective. According to Mancos Creative District, the weekend will feature displays of work by about 150 artists total.

Grand Winter Nights officially begins at 5 p.m. in downtown Mancos. HelloZark’s pop-up gallery will open at 4 p.m. The Veryl Goodnight Gallery will also open a special exhibit of vintage dolls during the event. Caroling, hot chocolate, a bonfire and several artistic demonstrations will be available for visitors throughout the evening. All downtown galleries will stay open until about 8 p.m., and many will be offering drinks and appetizers.

The arts market will last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. According to the Creative District’s website, it will feature handmade work from mostly local artists, and will be held alongside art demonstrations at galleries throughout the downtown area.

Santa Claus is scheduled to make an appearance at the Artisans of Mancos gallery at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and holiday wagon rides will be available on Grand Avenue starting at 11 a.m.
