On June 24 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum and the Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance will host the Four Corners Indigenous Art Market to “celebrate Native artists and culture from throughout the Four Corners.”

Admission to the event is free and will include art demonstrations and cultural lectures, hoop dance performances by Derrick Davis JaiPo and music by renowned artist Ed Kabotie, Twin Rivers, Hunter RedDay and Ryon Polequaptewa.

Artwork will be available for purchase.

“The event will expose visitors at the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and the local community in Montezuma and Dolores counties to the culture of descendants of those who occupied a portion of their ancestral homelands now protected through the monument designation,” a news release said.

The purpose of the event is not only to provide Native artisans with a platform to share history, art, knowledge and culture, but to “highlight their talents and gain exposure for their communities” while providing educational opportunities for all who participate.

The event is searching for sponsors to help make the day a success.

Sponsors’ logos with be printed in the group’s newsletter for a year, reaching over 1,000 members of the community each month.

“Our social media accounts have nearly 3,000 combined followers, and we anticipate hundreds of people from around the region will attend this inaugural event,” the announcement said. “With your help, we can attract even more attendees in the coming years.”

There are various levels of sponsorship, and these include having a logo and link on their website, recognition in the newsletter and annual report, social media shoutout, verbal recognition at the art event, logo on the event banner, booth at the event and an opportunity to speak onstage during the event.
