Gov. Polis to choose new judge for Dolores County

Judge Boyd is retiring after 15 years on the bench
A new judge will be selected soon for Dolores County.

Gov. Jared Polis will choose a county judge for Dolores County.

Current Judge E. Dale Boyd is retiring after serving since 2005.

A nominating commission for the 22nd Judicial District has selected two finalists for Polis.

Nominees Anthony Baca of Broomfield, and Anne Deyell-Lawrence of Cahone were selected in a video conference meeting Sept. 2.

Under the Colorado Constitution, the governor has 15 days from Sept. 2 to appoint one of the nominees as judge.

Public comments regarding the nominees may be emailed to gov_judicialappointments@state.co.us for Polis to review.

The nominating commission is made up of seven members who review applications for judgeships and select finalists. The governor must choose from nominees selected by the commission, said Jon Sarche, deputy public information officer for the Colorado Judicial Department.

No one political party can have a majority on the nominating commission of more than one. The commission is appointed by Colorado Chief Justice Nathan B. Coats and Polis.
