‘Encourage support of Mercy Hospital’

I write this as an individual. I share the feelings expressed by the doctors and supported by the editorial on Friday, June 2, regarding tubal surgeries being discontinued at Centura Mercy Hospital in Durango. I have a personal conflict with all the Catholic Church’s stances on reproductive care and contraception. However, I strongly encourage continued support of Mercy Hospital for our overall health care. The community of providers and staff at Mercy do profoundly care about health care.

I am a director on the Mercy Hospital Foundation Board in my third term of service. The dedication of MHF is to raise funds to support key areas of health care being provided by Mercy Hospital. Several areas include cardiovascular care with the Cardiac Cath Lab Priority Project; Level II Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit; Hospice House; support for hospital employees in personal emergencies.

Let’s not sacrifice the good of our local hospital and the great health care it provides due to a single issue of care. We need our hospital to be as strong as possible for all our health care needs.
