Two alleged drug traffickers are scheduled to appear in court later this month.

Corinthia Morningstar Begay will appear in the 22nd Judicial District Court for a bond and arraignment hearing on Feb. 27, starting at 2:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Robert Lawrence Cross will have a plea hearing at 9 a.m. Feb. 22.

Cross and Begay were arrested in Cortez on Dec. 27.

At her most recent hearing last Friday in front of Judge Todd Plewe, Begay was given a personal recognizance bond so she can also deal with her active cases in La Plata County.

Begay’s counsel, who appeared via Webex from La Plata County, said he wished to waive the preliminary hearing as he believes they are close to a resolution.

While he said her cases in Montezuma County are close to being resolved, her charges in La Plata County are still pending.

Because Begay is from Durango, Plewe informed her attorney that she wouldn’t be a candidate for the judicial district’s drug court because she would have to live in the district, but she may qualify for a probationary sentence.

After waiving the right for a preliminary hearing and setting the PR bond at $5,000, Plewe asked that Begay’s attorney “take the wheel,” ensuring that she makes it to all of her required court appearances in Montezuma and La Plata counties.

When Cross and Begay were arrested, they allegedly had methamphetamine, heroin and other illegal narcotics on them, totaling 62 grams.

The duo’s also accused of possessing a knife and a modified BB gun. The vehicle they were found in was reported stolen.

They were arrested on outstanding warrants.

When Begay was taken to the hospital after her arrest, she allegedly had cocaine and meth in her system.
