I want to take a moment to offer my sincere gratitude to local law enforcement that have been very present at the marches for democracy on Main Street in Cortez. There have been some aggressive bullies that have shown up and local law enforcement has been there to assure peace is maintained.
I participated in a march on Main Street in Cortez on Jan. 2, 2021. From the minute I exited my car, I was approached by people with guns and dogs. Some were becoming increasingly aggressive and I feared for my safety. I called 911 twice to make law enforcement aware of the growing aggression of that crowd. Law enforcement never showed, which was typical at marches during that time.
So, I am, as are many others, in deep gratitude to local law enforcement who have shown up at the recent marches and are truly committed to keeping the peace. Something has changed in the response and it has not gone unnoticed.
In 2021, I knew I was on my own. Now, I know, even if they don't agree with my opinions, they have my back. I thank them so very much for their continued presence as we continue to march to save our democracy!
