Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum is hosting several weekly, reoccurring events featuring ancient Puebloan culture and artifacts.

“It is time to start getting out and enjoying your public lands,” said Marietta Eaton, Visitor Center and Museum manager. “It is a great place to begin your adventure as you discover for yourself the wonders of the monument.”

The following events are held each Thursday from May through October.

The 11 a.m. “Big Picture” tour showcases the high points of the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum, Four Corners archaeology and prehistory while coming face-to-face with real artifacts.The Curation Tour at 2 p.m. features a behind-the-scenes look at the collections area. Tours are limited to 12 participants and reservations are encouraged by calling 970-882-5600. Participants should be at least 12-years-old.At 3 p.m., the docents present a program in the main gallery featuring a discussion on trade, hunting and cultures prior to Puebloan farming villages. The following events are held every weekend from June through September.

Each Saturday at 11 a.m., the “Totems, Towers and Other Amazing Coincidences” program explores the similarities between European and Southwestern cultures 1,000-2,000 years ago.The “Ask a Ranger” program explores a variety of subjects including Ancestral Puebloan weaving, culture, language and more every Sunday at 11 a.m.All tours and programs are included with the $3 per person admission to the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum. Children under 18 and America the Beautiful Public Lands Pass holders can enter the museum and enjoy the activities for free. The museum and visitor center is located at 27501 CO. 184 and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
