Mancos to host Olde Fashioned Christmas with Rudolph Run, tree lighting and Santa

Mancos’ annual Olde Fashioned Christmas celebration will be Friday, Dec. 5, in downtown Mancos, with family-friendly events from 5 to 8 p.m., including the lighting of the community Christmas tree in Pioneer Plaza.

The celebration begins at 5 p.m. with the 1K and 5K Rudolph Run, sponsored by Colorado Ranch and Home Realty and Carrie Summers. At 5:30 p.m., the Mancos Music Student Ensemble will perform holiday music at the community center.

The Mancos Valley Chorus will start downtown events with Christmas carols at 6 p.m. Santa Claus will arrive by firetruck at 6:15 p.m., followed by the lighting of the community Christmas tree in Pioneer Plaza.

At 6:30 p.m., children can join Santa for a light parade on Grand Avenue, then return to the community center to visit with Santa and enjoy refreshments. Also at 6:30 p.m., the chorus will visit downtown businesses with carols.

The Mancos Opera House will host a Nativity scene display sponsored by local churches from 4 to 8 p.m. Downtown shops and galleries will stay open until 8 p.m. with in-store events and promotions for Olde Fashioned Christmas shoppers.

Sponsors include the Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce, Colorado Ranch and Home Realty, Famburger, New Masters Village and Montezuma County VFW Auxiliary Post 5231.

A separate Christmas Dinner for All will be Thursday, Dec. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the community center.
