I’m pretty sure most of us keep things we would like to see happen in the back of our minds, but have no idea of how to make it happen. Then, one day, we see, or hear, something similar to our idea. It grabs our attention, and our idea is lit up with possibilities of making it happen.
I have gone through a process like this of late. It was a photo taken in China, an impressive picture of all the greenhouses built to grow food to feed people. That photo inspired me to think about farming, and another way of using land zoned for agriculture.
Promoting food security, and keeping our farmers healthy, productive and more fulfilled. A new way of growing food locally, was inspired. Better than more solar panel fields any day. As I see it, we could erect large professional greenhouses in which to grow food, almost year around. Built on farm land, most often used for agriculture anyway, but instead of traditional cultivation, greenhouses could be built instead.
They could potentially release, and relieve, farmers from being over obligated in many ways. They could employ people to plant, maintain and harvest. They could conserve water. We might not be so limited in what food we can grow. They can bring landscapes alive. The real symbols of what it means to provide for the health, safety and well-being of people. Financing, just one topic for discussion. Beginnings are delicate times. Let’s grow!
