Southwest Health System has expanded its medical team with the return of Dr. Kameo Smith to Southwest Medical Group and the addition of Dr. Nathan Clyde to its roster of providers. Smith is a primary care provider, and Clyde is a podiatric medicine specialist.

Smith, a family medicine physician with more than 20 years of experience, rejoins the Cortez community after a year of service in Hana, Maui, Hawaii.

Smith is originally from Loveland. She earned her undergraduate degree from Occidental College in Los Angeles, followed by research work at The Children’s Hospital in Boston. She obtained her medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and completed her residency at North Colorado Family Medicine – Sunrise Community Health Center in Greeley.

As a National Health Corps scholar, Smith worked in Socorro, New Mexico, before moving to Cortez in 2007. Her career also included brief stints in North Carolina and Hawaii. Southwest Health System shared that Smith is now accepting new patients and is looking forward to seeing former patients.

“What I love most about family medicine is getting to know multiple generations within a family,” she said.

Clyde will bring specialized expertise in foot and ankle care to Southwest Health System. He is a native of Logan, Utah, and graduated from Utah State University with a degree in economics, later earning his podiatric medicine degree at the Arizona College of Podiatric Medicine. He also contributed to antiviral research at the Institute of Antiviral Research, co-authoring a publication for the National Institutes of Health, according to SHS.

He completed an advanced surgical residency at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville in Indiana, with training in trauma, wound care, limb salvage, minimally invasive surgery, ankle arthroscopy, sports medicine and reconstructive procedures.

His clinical focus includes foot and ankle injuries and fractures, plantar fasciitis and heel pain, bunions, hammertoes, flatfoot deformities, ankle instability and chronic sprains, tendinitis and Achilles tendon disorders, arthritis and diabetic wound care, neuromas, nerve entrapments and ingrown toenails.

Clyde is board-qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery.

“Dr. Clyde is dedicated to helping patients stay active, mobile and pain-free through expert care and a patient-first approach,” Southwest Health System said. “As a specialist in foot and ankle conditions, he believes in empowering patients through education, ensuring they fully understand their diagnosis and treatment options.”
