Montezuma-Cortez Re-1 leaders have opted to delay interviewing potential board members for two open seats.

Earlier this month, current board members discussed starting the interview process at tonight’s special swearing-in ceremony, but officials have apparently opted to stay the interview process.

“The consensus was to wait until the Dec. 8th meeting,” Re-1 secretary Linda Diffendaffer confirmed this week.

Re-elected to four-year terms earlier this month, board members Sherri Wright and Pete Montano will be sworn into office tonight at 6 p.m.

In the election, no candidates applied to replace term-limited board president Tim Lanier in District G, which spans west from U.S. 491 and roughly north of County Road G, or retiring board member Brian Demby in District F, which spans east of U.S. 491 to roughly County Road 24.

To date, three county residents have expressed an interest to serve two-year terms on the school board. Melody Krob and Kara Suckla are seeking a seat to represent District G, and Sheri Noyes is hoping to take the District F post.

Wright said she wanted to conduct interviews at tonight’s meeting, citing the district had dragged its feet to find replacements for Lanier and Demby.

According to Superintendent Alex Carter, the district is required to provide a 60-day window before appointing replacements.

The district adopted a resolution announcing both vacant seats on Nov. 10, requiring any letters of interest be submitted by Dec. 7.

The Journal has no record of any previous paid advertisement announcing the vacancies.
