Wright displays watercolors at Cortez library

Paintings depict Mesa Verde dwellings
Jan Wright’s watercolor painting depicting Spruce Tree House at Mesa Verde National Park will be on display at the Cortez Public Library through July.

Mancos watercolor artist Jan Wright will display two of her works at the Cortez Public Library through July.

Featured paintings include two five-foot watercolors of Cliff Palace and Spruce Tree House at Mesa Verde National Park. Wright was artist in residence at Mesa Verde in October 2012.

Wright’s experience at the park deepened her connection to the Ancestral Puebloans, as well as their dwellings, artifacts, and rock art.

Wright exhibited watercolors of Mesa Verde for six years at Far View Lodge and coordinated the artist in residence program there for three years. Jan has created more than 25 one-woman exhibits in Colorado, Utah, Texas, and New Mexico throughout her 40-year career as an artist.

Wright’s artwork is in permanent collections at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, the Salt Lake County Arts Collection, Wells Fargo Bank of St. George, Utah, Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona, Mesa Verde National Park, CEU Prehistory Museum in Price, Utah and in private collections throughout the country, Europe, Australia, and South Africa.

More of Wright’s artwork can be seen at Artisans of Mancos, as well as in varied juried shows in the Durango Arts Center and surrounding area. She teaches watercolor classes through Mancos School of the West.
