Women With Insight classes began last week in Farmington

The Women With Insight training offered by the Farmington Police Department began Thursday, March 2 with a full classroom of 34 women seeking to learn self-defense skills and build overall confidence.

The first class in the eight-week course taught about crime scene investigation.

Officer Samantha Bencomo coordinates the classes at the Farmington Police Station, 900 Municipal Drive.

Police spokeswoman, Shanice Gonzales said the classes typically have 25 to 35 participants and have ranged in age from 14 years old to 80.

Gonzales said the women also learn about community resources and the workings of the police department.
