New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 550 north of Aztec.

Police say Salina Levi, 29, was driving a 1998 Jeep SUV around 7:30 p.m. May 17, when she approached a left-hand curve in the southbound lane. Levi failed to negotiate the curve, causing her to leave the roadway, strike a tree and roll the Jeep.

Levi was fatally injured in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Examiner.

State Police say alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash, and Levi’s failure to use a seat belt resulted in her fatal injuries.
