President Donald Trump stated recently that he wants Republicans to “nationalize” state electoral systems in 15 locations where he claims electoral fraud exists. Does “nationalize” mean only Republicans will run these systems? Is Colorado one of those states? If so, what would that mean for our electoral system in Montezuma County and its cities?
The nonpartisan Montezuma County Clerk and Recorder’s Office runs our elections. If Republicans seize election control, there would be no need for this county office anymore, so will they abolish it?
Next, which Republicans will run our elections? Will it be the anonymous Republicans who control the city Republican Party? If not them, will it be the Montezuma County Patriots, who still believe Trump’s claim that the 2020 election was rigged despite no evidence to that effect? If not them, will it be the Montezuma County Tea Party Republicans who oppose taxation? Which Republicans will be in charge of our elections, and whom will they allow to vote?
Montezuma County Republicans will demand that we always show IDs before we are allowed to vote. But will they reject IDs of anyone who is not a Republican? Will they always deem elections fraudulent if Republicans do not win them? Remember, they will control our elections completely!
