If I recall correctly, taxpayers paid nearly $375,000 for the cleanup of the Purple Cliffs homeless camp.

Why is there still an unsightly mess on the hillside? Is La Plata County blind to this scourge of embarrassment?

Instead of rewarding the homeless with free room and board, why not encourage them to sing for their supper by volunteering to finish clearing the mess they left behind?

One hour of cleanup equals one meal. One hour of cleanup equals one hour of warming shelter, etc.

I don’t mean to sound heartless, but I can be fined $1,000 for littering. And this goes way beyond the norm.

Is it too much to ask that the beautiful area we live in remain beautiful?
