Emergency workers responded to a three-vehicle crash Friday during the evening rush hour on U.S. Highway 550 south of Durango.

The southbound lane of traffic was closed shortly before 5 p.m. and didn’t reopen until about 6:15 p.m. near Bondad Hill, in the the 5800 block of Highway 550, said Chris Burke, spokesman for the La Plata County Sheriff's Office.

One male patient was taken to a hospital, but Burke did not immediately have additional information about injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisting with traffic control, but the crash scene was expected to be turned over to the Colorado State Patrol for further investigation.
