U.S. 160 at La Veta Pass reopens reopen Saturday

Colorado 12 and 69 remain closed
The Spring Creek Fire continues to burn in Costilla County on Tuesday in La Veta, Colo. More than 100 homes in the Colorado mountains were destroyed by a growing wildfire, while hundreds of others across the parched U.S. West remained under evacuations Tuesday and the closure of recreation areas derailed holiday plans.

The Colorado Department of Transportation will reopened U.S. Highway 160 at La Veta Pass on Saturday at 2 p.m., CDOT announced on Friday.

La Veta Pass has been closed since June 27 from Fort Garland to La Veta because of the Spring Creek Fire.

Colorado Highway 69 will remain closed from 5 miles north of Walsenburg to the Huerfano/Custer County Line. Local traffic will be permitted on Colorado 69 with proof of residence. Colorado 12 will also remain closed northbound and southbound from County Road 420 in La Veta to the summit of Cuchara Pass.

Highways may open and close without warning, CDOT said. For more information, check cotrip.org.

CDOT cautioned that stopping, parking, or standing outside of vehicles along the U.S. 160 from Fort Garland to La Veta is not allowed, and officers will be patrolling the highway.
