A car crash occurred on U.S. Highway 550 north of Durango, near the Hermosa Speedway gas station on Thursday morning.

The accident involving a Subaru Forester and a Cadillac XT4 occurred at 8:41 a.m. and resulted in minor injuries to one driver.

Colorado State Patrol Master Trooper Gary Cutler could not specify which vehicle the driver with injuries had been driving. He also could not say how the crash occurred.

However, the Cadillac XTR had received severe damage to the front of the vehicle, indicating that it made substantial contact with the other vehicle. Cutler also said a 66-year-old woman was involved in the crash but could not say which vehicle she was driving.

The accident slowed traffic to a single lane as 9:45 a.m. and because neither vehicle flipped, Cutler was optimistic that the scene should be cleared within the next hour.

This is the second time a car crash has slowed traffic on U.S. Highway 550 near Durango this week. On Tuesday, a major crash involving a fatality near Sunnyside Elementary School, about 9 miles north of the New Mexico line closed the highway for around six hours.
