A crash involving two motorcycles left one person dead and another with serious injuries Friday on Coal Bank Pass between Durango and Silverton.
The crash was reported just before 2 p.m. Friday near milepost 55 on U.S. Highway 550, north of Purgatory Resort, said Trooper Hunter Mathews, with the Colorado State Patrol.
Those involved included a 53-year-old New Mexico man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 73-year-old Texas man, who was taken to a local hospital, he said.
The identities of the riders were not immediately released Friday afternoon.
One of the riders was driving a black Harley-Davidson and the other was driving a red Harley-Davidson, Mathews said.
The cause of the crash, including an accident description, remained under investigation, he said. He did not immediately know if the men were acquaintances and riding together.
The highway remained opened but was reduced to one, alternating lane of traffic, Mathews said.
