After missing the first four races of the motocross season, Cortez native Eli Tomac is making his presence known.

Competing in Buchanan, Mich., on July 5, Tomac finished fourth in round one and second in round two on his way to a second-place finish overall.

Getting off to a strong start in the first round, Tomac battled start to finish, finishing fourth behind Ken Roczen, Trey Canard and Ryan Dungey.

According to GEICO Motorcycle, a dirty visor hindered Tomac late in the race.

“The main issue was being able to see clearly as I actually ran out of tear-offs,” Tomac was quoted as saying.

In the second round, he accelerated to his best finish of the season, finishing second to Roczen.

“Today went even better than last weekend in Tennessee,” Tomac said after the race.

Tomac hopes to contend for a win when he hits the track on July 12 in Mechanicsville, Md.

“Hopefully, I will turn this progress into a first place next event,” Tomac was quoted as saying. “We are extremely close to the bike being fully dialed in. I can’t wait to be battling for first when that happens.”
