StoneMakers landscaping opens in Cortez

Richard McDonald has opened StoneMakers in Cortez. The company provides landscaping materials such as fountains, fire pits and outdoor kitchen sets.

McDonald has been in the construction business for nearly two decades, and is adding StoneMakers landscaping to his list of services. StoneMakers is affiliated with the New Hampshire company of the same name, and McDonald is a dealer of the company’s concrete landscaping products.

McDonald said his business will be able to turn projects around quickly after they are commissioned.

“One advantage we have is being able to quickly finish a project on-site,” he said. “We can do the work in just a few days.”

StoneMakers can create large pieces like the one outside McDonald’s home, a stone waterfall complete with a bench and a pond. They also provide smaller benches and fire pits, as well as carved rock retaining walls for landscaping purposes. Projects can be ordered or commissioned, but StoneMakers has some fire pits that are already built and available for purchase in Cortez, McDonald said. He also hopes to have outdoor kitchen sets available soon, he said.

The stains and sealers StoneMakers uses on landscaping pieces are mostly water-based, making them earth-friendly and safe, McDonald said. The company is also a dealer of Elite Crete Systems concrete flooring and coating products.

McDonald and nine employees have been training to master the StoneMaker techniques since April 2015, he said.

“Now we’re established and can pursue customers,” he said.
