The Colorado Department of Transportation has released a website link for residents to report potholes and other maintenance concerns.

Go to https://www.codot.gov/topcontent/contact-cdot, click the relevant county on the map, and follow the links to a report form that includes your name, ZIP code, and description of the problem.

Spring’s potholes typically form after moisture seeps into a road, weakens its foundation, freezes, then thaws. The freeze/thaw effect expands and shrinks the road’s surface, CDOT said in a news release, creating more cracks and further decreasing the road’s strength

“Once the roadway freezes and thaws, it can no longer support the weight of traffic and begins to crumble, which can instantly cause potholes,” said Kyle Lester, CDOT director of highway maintenance. “Our crews are always appreciative to receive calls from customers about potholes or other obstructions in the roadway,” he said.
