Expect some snow this weekend in Southwest Colorado.

According to the National Weather Service, a storm is moving into the region beginning Thursday, bringing with it the chance for snow until Sunday night.

During this time period, 6 to 14 inches of new snow accumulation is possible in the high country of the San Juan Mountains.

OpenSnow.com is calling for 7 inches of snow at Purgatory Resort and nearly a foot of new snow at Wolf Creek Ski Area.

The NWS issued a winter storm watch that takes effect Saturday afternoon through Sunday.

Towns listed in the watch include Silverton, Hesperus, Ouray, Rico, Ridgway, Telluride and Monticello.

Travel is expected to be difficult, especially on mountain passes, with patchy blowing snow reducing visibility.

The NWS says periodic breaks in snowfall are possible during the storm.

In Durango, there’s a slight chance of snow late Thursday into Friday. Wind gusts during this time could be as high as 25 mph.

Saturday and Sunday, the NWS says precipitation could fall as a mix of snow and rain, depending on temperatures. The daytime high Saturday and Sunday is 43 and 38, respectively.

Snow is expected to taper off across Southwest Colorado by Sunday evening.
