DENVER – With the 2024 fall sports season in the books, CHSAA puts in final touches on another memorable season by handing out its all-state selections – and once again, southwest Colorado teams received plenty of recognition for their on-court exploits.
Both Dove Creek and Mancos earned three all-state honorable mention selections apiece, capping campaigns that saw the Bulldogs and Bluejays post top finishes in the San Juan Basin League and advance to postseason play.
After their fourth straight 1A state tournament appearance, Dove Creek boasted the selections of seniors Ralynn Hickman, Hannah Barry, and Taylor Barry to the all-state team, while Mancos earned their third straight regional appearance, with sophomores Bailey Beh and Aubree Wyatt, as well as junior Brooke Jabour taking 2A honors.
Dove Creek closed out another sterling season with a record of 24-3 and a SJBL title thanks to the steady leadership of Hickman and the Barry sisters. Hickman earned her second volleyball designation, posting over 400 kills for the season – accounting as the top Bulldog in that category this season – while surpassing 1,000 for her career. Taylor Barry finished just behind Hickman in put-aways, while leading the team in digs in her first year with the blue-and-yellow. Hannah Barry controlled action for the Bulldogs offense while dishing out over 800 assists as the setter. Dove Creek steamrollered through the regular season, posting 21 consecutive wins while dominating their regional match and picking up a victory in state tournament play.
The Bluejays finished with another top-three finish in the SJBL, as Mancos posted a record of 17-8 for their third straight winning season. Mancos advanced to 2A regional play, picking up a win in the postseason before narrowly missing a return trip to state. The Bluejays youth movement earned the full attention of the rest of the state, as the sophomore power-hitting duo of Beh and Wyatt combined to account for over 700 kills for the Jays. Jabour helped control the back line, leading the team with over 400 digs as part of a Mancos program that returns virtually their entire roster in pursuit of continued success the coming year.
All-state teams from the five volleyball classifications were selected based off a nomination process from coaches and leagues from across the state, followed by a voting process from coaches to allocate the designation as first team, second team, or honorable mention.
