Hunter Lawrence extended his overall points lead to 12 points following two top-two finishes in the Motocross races at Round 8 in Washougal, Washington.
Overall for the day, Hunter Lawrence placed first, followed by his brother Jett Lawrence in second and Haiden Deegan in third. Cortez’s Eli Tomac placed 14th overall.
In Moto 1, Deegan took the hole shot with his Yamaha teammate Cooper Webb right on his heels. Deegan crashed around the first corner, putting him nearly at the back of the pack while Jett and Hunter Lawrence moved to first and second.
Hunter raced right behind Jett while Prado moved to third. Deegan quickly moved his way from nearly last place to seventh. Soon, he was in fourth behind Prado.
The first race ended with Jett in first, Hunter in second, Prado in third and Deegan in fourth.
The second race involved an intense battle between the brothers, with Jett starting in hole shot position, followed by Hunter, Deegan and Prado.
Hunter attacked, moving to first, with Deegan moving past Jett with Hunter. Jett quickly passed Deegan back, racing less than a second behind his brother.
Later on in the race, Jett accidentally rode off the track. Deegan attempted to move to second, but Jett was able to hold on. Not long later, commentators reported that Jett would be receiving a one place penalty for allegedly accelerating while riding off the track, keeping Deegan from passing him.
Jett crashed later, allowing Hunter to extend his lead. Deegan was “all over” Jett after his crash, but was unable to pass him before the end of the race.
The race ended with Hunter in first, Jett in second and Deegan in third, but the penalty put Deegan in second and Jett in third.
Round 9 of the 2026 Motocross season will be held Aug. 15 at Unadilla MX in New Berlin, New York. Following the races in Unadilla, only two rounds will remain, with the finale of the season to take place Aug. 29.
