Southwest Health System will offer the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine Monday to people age 18 and older.

Forty shots will be available. Only one dose of the Johnson & Johnson shot is required to complete the immunization.

According to SHS Executive Assistant Bridgett Jabour, SHS wants to see whether demand for the Johnson & Johnson shot is high enough before asking the state for additional doses.

No appointment is required.

“It’s just like you would if you came to the walk-in for anything else,” Jabour said.

Southwest Walk- in Care, 1413 N. Mildred Road in Cortez, has new hours.

The clinic will now be open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SHS also will offer 500 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at two clinics next week, from 3 to 7 p.m.Tuesday and Thursday.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently expanded the Pfizer vaccine’s emergency use authorization to include adolescents ages 12 to 15.

“The Pfizer, because of the lowered age, is a new opportunity for the community as well,” Jabour said.

People interested in the Pfizer clinics may sign up at the SHS website.
