Anthony Tafoya and Dylan Steerman check their Christmas list as Vern Rucker of the Cortez Police Department looks on. The Montezuma-Cortez High School student council raised money to provide the Shop With a Cop program with local law enforcement. “Often times, a kid’s only experience with an officer is when they get in trouble,” said Montezuma County Undersheriff Jim Kingery. “This puts a positive spin on it to show kids that we’re also here to help.” Local children were each given $100 to shop for Christmas.
