Saturday, Oct. 4

5:38 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of an animal bite at the 24400 block of Road G. 1 in Cortez. A man was bitten while trying to separate his dog from two attacking pit bulls. The dogs were quarantined for 10 days at the local animal shelter..

Tuesday, Oct. 7

9:54 a.m.: Deputies responded to the 24200 block of Road G in Cortez for an abandoned Honda utility vehicle, suspected to be stolen. Footprints were found around the vehicle, and a witness reported seeing a man riding it the day before. The vehicle was towed pending identification of the owner. .

Sunday, Oct. 12

4:05 p.m.: Deputies responded to a Maverik convenience store on the 7200 block of U.S. Highway 160/491 in Cortez for two intoxicated men refusing to leave. The men, who appeared to have been in a fight, ignored repeated requests to depart and continued arguing. Deputies detained both individuals. One man, who initially gave a false name, was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and resisting arrest after being identified.

Wednesday, Oct. 15

9:37 a.m.: A theft was reported at the Baymont Inn & Suites on the 2200 block of Hawkins St. in Cortez. A man staying at the hotel discovered that a portable generator and an orange jack were stolen overnight from the back of his pickup truck in the parking lot. Hotel staff are reviewing security footage for evidence.

2:45 p.m.: Deputies assisted in rescuing an injured hunter in a remote area off Forest Service Road 436 near Dolores. A tree had fallen on a man at a campsite, causing head injuries and seizures. Search and rescue teams and medical personnel hiked several miles to reach the victim. The man was carried out and airlifted from Colorado Highway 145 for medical treatment.

Saturday, Oct. 18

2:01 p.m.: Deputies responded to an unwanted person call at a residence on the 41700 block of Colorado Highway 184 in Mancos. A woman was found at the home in violation of two active protection orders. She was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order and transported to the Detention Center. .

Wednesday, Oct. 22

10:51 a.m.: Deputies served an out-of-county warrant at the Montezuma County Detention Center on the 700 block of E. Driscoll St. in Cortez. A man already in custody was served with a Durango Police warrant on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, theft and first-degree criminal trespass.

8:12 p.m.: Deputies served multiple failure-to-appear warrants on a man at the Montezuma County Detention Center on the 700 block of E. Driscoll St. in Cortez. The inmate was served with seven outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court.

Thursday, Oct. 23

7:21 p.m.: Deputies assisted Colorado State Patrol in apprehending a wanted suspect at a residence on the 4300 block of U.S. Highway 160 E. in Cortez. A man with multiple outstanding warrants was taken into custody without incident. The man was found to be highly intoxicated and was medically cleared before being booked into the Detention Center.

Friday, Oct. 24

5:10 p.m.: A man reported losing a firearm suppressor along Road 21 near Road W in the Pleasant View area. The man said the suppressor, stored in a red ammunition box, fell from his vehicle while he was driving. Deputies searched the route, but the item remains missing and has been logged as lost property.

Saturday, Oct. 25

3:38 p.m.: Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the 26000 block of Road N near Cortez after recognizing a driver with active warrants. The man had warrants on suspicion of violating protection orders. He was taken into custody on the warrants. An open alcoholic container was found in his vehicle, and he was cited for an open container violation.

Sunday, Oct. 26

9:29 p.m.: Deputies investigated a possible protection order violation involving threatening messages in Towaoc. A woman reported receiving Facebook messages allegedly from a man who is restrained from contacting her. Because the incident took place on tribal land, the case was referred to Bureau of Indian Affairs authorities for further investigation.

Monday, Oct. 27

8:55 a.m.: Deputies served arrest warrants on a man at the Montezuma County Detention Center on the 700 block of E. Driscoll St. in Cortez. The man was booked on two outstanding warrants, including suspicion of assault and obstruction of a peace officer.

Tuesday, Oct. 28

10:36 a.m.: Deputies took a woman into custody on an outstanding failure-to-appear warrant at the Montezuma County Combined Courts on the 800 block of N. Park St. in Cortez. She was transported to the Montezuma County Detention Center and booked on the warrant.
