Saturday, July 5

8:46 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 28260 block of U.S. Highway 160, where a brush fire was reported at Vista Verde Village. A man admitted to lighting fireworks for children, which led to the fire. No trailers were threatened. He was cited under Montezuma County Ordinance No. 2-2015.

Wednesday, July 9

6:08 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 12487 block of Road 41 in Mancos for a report of identity theft. A woman reported being contacted by a California officer who found her Social Security information during a traffic stop. She later discovered a fraudulent TurboTax refund had been issued in her name in 2024. The case was referred to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for further fraud reporting.

Friday, July 11

8:48 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 806 block of South Broadway in Cortez after observing a gray Nissan Versa fail to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. The woman driver admitted she did not have a valid license and that the vehicle was uninsured. She was issued a summons for driving without a license, lack of insurance, and failure to yield. The vehicle was towed.

Friday, July 18

3:55 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 23890 block of Road G in Cortez for a vehicle crash. A woman admitted to driving while angry after discovering her boyfriend was cheating. She showed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking and using marijuana. After failing roadside tests and registering a BrAC of .135, she was taken into custody. At the Detention Center, she resisted deputies and attempted to harm herself. She was booked on suspicion of second-degree assault, DUI, and careless driving.

Monday, July 21

3:46 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 25411 block of Road H in Cortez for a domestic violence report. A man with an active warrant was found intoxicated and became aggressive with deputies. A woman reported he had kicked her multiple times during an argument. The man was medically cleared at the hospital after erratic behavior and then transported to the Montezuma County Detention Center. He was booked on suspicion of third-degree assault, driving under suspension, fictitious plates, and defective vehicle equipment.

Tuesday, July 22

10:49 a.m.: Deputies responded to the 25628 block of Road L where a two-vehicle crash occurred in a parking lot. One woman reported damage to her vehicle after another woman parked nearby. Surveillance footage supported the claim. A citation for careless driving was issued.

Tuesday, July 22

7:26 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 744 block of E. Main St. in Cortez to assist the Cortez Police Department with a fight in which multiple suspects had fled the scene. A man was found covered in blood and was evaluated by medical staff. Deputies remained with the man until relieved by another officer. No further investigative action was taken by the Sheriff's Office.

Wednesday, July 23

8:52 a.m.: Deputies responded to the 865 N. Park St. where a man with a warrant was already in custody. He was transported to the Montezuma County Detention Center and booked.

3:11 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 730 block of E. Driscoll St. in Cortez to serve a warrant on a man who had just been transported to the Montezuma County Detention Center. The man was identified and served with warrant C0422024M 000290. He remained in the custody of detention staff.

5:45 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 7006 block of U.S. Highway 160 where a man reported a missing tackle box containing $700 worth of fishing gear. Surveillance footage showed no one approaching the vehicle. The case remains unclear..

Thursday, July 24

6:09 a.m.: Deputies responded to the 730 E. Driscoll St., where a fight occurred in the Montezuma Detention Center. Two men were charged with assault after video footage confirmed mutual combat.

8:12 a.m.: Deputies responded to the 6723 block of U.S. Highway 160 in Cortez for a report of abandoned property. At the scene, a multicolored bag, a Nike shoe, and a bicycle were found. The bicycle’s serial number returned clear. The bag and shoe were collected and placed into evidence for safekeeping, while the bicycle was left at the location due to transport limitations.

10:37 a.m.: Deputies responded to the 730 block of E. Driscoll St. in Cortez to serve warrants on a woman already in custody at the Montezuma County Detention Center. She was served with one local and one out-of-county warrant and remained in the care of detention staff.

4:08 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 4285 block of U.S. Highway 160 in Cortez for a report of an intoxicated man walking in the roadway. The man was found unsteady and had an active arrest warrant for trespassing. After being taken into custody, he spit on the deputy. He was medically cleared and booked into the Montezuma County Detention Center. He was also issued a summons for third-degree assault.

5:48 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 730 block of E. Driscoll St. in Cortez to serve warrants on a woman being transported to the Montezuma County Detention Center. She was served with two outstanding warrants and left in the care of detention deputies.

8:22 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 730 E. Driscoll St., where a man already incarcerated was served with two additional warrants. He remained in custody.

Friday, July 25

4:22 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 3522 block of U.S. Highway 491 in Montezuma County for a report of a possible DUI and domestic violence incident involving two women. A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI, resisting arrest, and obstructing a peace officer after refusing to identify herself, physically resisting deputies, and failing to comply with sobriety testing. A second woman was also arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and obstruction. Both were transported to the Montezuma County Detention Center. Multiple bottles of high-proof alcohol were recovered from the vehicle.

Saturday, July 26

11:32 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 25680 block of Road P in Dolores for a single-vehicle rollover crash. A man was found inside the overturned SUV and reported chest pain but declined medical attention. He admitted to drinking wine. Medics assisted him from the vehicle, and he was transported for evaluation. Colorado State Patrol took over the investigation.

Sunday, July 27

8:01 a.m.: Deputies responded to the 13698 block of Road 17 where a man was found inside a camper trailer on private property. He was arrested after stolen checkbooks were found on him. Two others were issued summonses for trespassing.

6:02 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 145 near Dolores for a motorcycle crash. A man was found injured in a ditch beside the road and was treated by Rico Fire personnel before being airlifted to a hospital. The man admitted he was likely speeding and mentioned dodging an animal. A Ruger .380 pistol was recovered from his pocket and turned over to the Colorado State Patrol. No signs of intoxication were observed.

10:55 p.m.: Deputies responded to the 35082 block of U.S. Highway 184 in Mancos for a domestic violence report involving a firearm. A man allegedly handed a handgun to his longtime partner, encouraging her to shoot him during an argument. Both parties were intoxicated. The woman reported being frightened due to a previous incident where the man accidentally discharged a firearm into their bed frame. The man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, prohibited use of a weapon, and menacing.

Monday, July 28

11:50 a.m.: Deputies responded to the 730 E. Driscoll St. where a man already in custody was served with a failure-to-appear warrant. He remained in the custody of Detention Center staff.

Tuesday, July 29

11:02 a.m.: Deputies responded to the 865 N. Park St. where a man was remanded to custody by the court. He was transported and booked into the Montezuma County Detention Center.
