8:40 p.m.: A man was served with two warrants for failure to appear, on a traffic charge and a charge of underage possession of a controlled substance, at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

9:30 a.m.: A woman was issued a summons in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of speeding more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit and driving under suspension. She was also given a verbal warning for having a tinted plastic cover over her license plate that obscured the numbers.

1:15 p.m.: An employee with the Montezuma County Water District reported an incident of criminal mischief in the 24000 block of County Road G. He claimed a water meter riser had been damaged when someone illegally re-opened the water meter valve to a residence where the water had been shut off. He estimated the damage would cost $1,400 to repair, and about 800 gallons of water had been stolen. The case remains under investigation.

10 p.m.: A deputy contacted a man in the 1 block of East Mike Wash, Towaoc, on suspicion of an open container violation. Since the man was a Native American, the deputy contacted the Bureau of Indian Affairs and turned the case over to the responding officer.

Wednesday, March 29

9 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a stray horse in the 6000 block of County Road 25. Since the responding deputies didn’t recognize the horse’s brand, it was transported to the Cortez Sale Barn.

1:30 p.m.: A woman reported an incident of second-degree trespass in the 17000 block of County Road 25. She claimed she had seen a man run out of her enclosed back porch, breaking the door down. The responding deputy was unable to find any damage to the porch door, or any footprints that would suggest a person was on the property, but he did note that the door jamb on a nearby shed had been broken. The woman claimed she had called the sheriff’s office several times before about people trespassing on her property, but they had never been able to find evidence.

9:14 a.m.: A man was arrested on suspicion of harassment and domestic violence in the 300 block of Hillside Ave., Dolores, after his common-law wife reported he had pushed her and scratched her on the lip.

9:35 a.m.: A man reported an incident of identity theft in the 23000 block of County Road G. He claimed his previous employer had misfiled his taxes and stolen his $7,100 tax return. The responding deputy decided not to follow up on the case.

Thursday, March 30

10:35 a.m.: A man reported an incident of second-degree trespass in the 1900 block of Hillside Avenue, Dolores. He claimed someone had kicked in the door to his residence, but although the house was under construction, responding deputies found no damage to the door. The man claimed he had repaired it. The man also said he did not want to press charges, but simply wanted the incident to be documented.

8:22 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of menacing in the 12000 block of U.S. Highway 491. A woman reported that a man had pointed a gun at her out of his vehicle’s passenger window while she passed him on the highway. The man claimed he did not keep guns in his vehicle, and had simply given the woman “the finger” after she flipped him off while passing him at what he felt was an unsafe speed. No guns were found in the man’s car, and responding deputies closed the case due to a lack of evidence that a crime had occurred.

Friday, March 31

10:25 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a hit and run accident in the 5900 block of County Road 21. A man claimed someone had hit his car while it was parked near a rock yard, causing heavy damage to the passenger side. The man had left the vehicle to go on a walk, and he said no other cars were parked in the area when he left or when he arrived. Although the responding deputy found traces of red or maroon paint on the damaged car, he asked for the case to be closed due to a lack of leads.
