Wednesday, June 28

8:49 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of vandalism in the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 160. A man claimed someone had attempted to break the passenger window on his truck, and had left scratch marks on it. The case remains under investigation.

Thursday, June 29

3:20 p.m.: A man was cited on suspicion of violating a county fire ban ordinance in the 25000 block of County Road P. He said he told his son to set a controlled burn of construction materials on his property, and forgot to notify police or the sheriff.

9:37 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 5000 block of County Road 25 on a warrant for failure to appear.

Friday, June 30

12:55 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 17000 block of Colorado Highway 145 on a La Plata County warrant and on suspicion of speeding and driving under restraint.

10:15 a.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to appear at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

Saturday, July 1

1:29 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 2500 block of U.S. Highway 160 on a warrant for failure to comply after the car in which he was a passenger was pulled over by a Colorado State Patrol trooper for DUI.

3:09 p.m.: A man was arrested at Woody’s Gas Station, 174 U.S. Highway 160, on suspicion of intimidating a witness, third-degree assault, domestic violence and three counts of child abuse. An employee reported he had seen a man punch a woman in the face several times while they were in a car parked at the gas station. The woman said her boyfriend had hit her while three children were in the back seat of the car. While she was talking to police, the suspect reportedly yelled at her not to say anything about the incident “or else.” The man reportedly shouted profanities and threats at deputies throughout his arrest.

6:13 p.m.: Deputies responded to a traffic accident in the 100 block of South 11th Street, Dolores. A woman said she had accidentally backed into a man’s vehicle while leaving a parking lot, causing slight damage to both vehicles. No citations were issued.

6:58 p.m.: Deputies assisted Colorado State Patrol troopers in pursuit of a vehicle that had failed to stop after being contacted in the 23000 block of County Road G. The driver had reportedly fled from Cortez police after being contacted about a restraining order violation. He reportedly had several warrants for his arrest and was driving recklessly when Patrol troopers saw him. Deputies and troopers planned to perform a “tactical vehicle interception” in the 17000 block of Road G, but when deputies reached the 18000 block, the troopers called off the pursuit. They traveled to the Utah state line to make sure the suspect had not caused an accident, but reportedly found only skid marks.
