6:31 p.m.: A female inmate was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

8:24 p.m.: A male inmate was served with a felony warrant for failure to comply at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

Thursday, April 5

8 a.m.: A female juvenile was cited on suspicion of speeding in the 23000 block of Colorado Highway 184.

3:30 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of fraud in the 14000 block of County Road 33. A woman said she and her friends responded to an anonymous Craigslist ad for a rental house on Highway 491, and had sent driver’s license information to the advertiser. When the advertiser asked for a deposit via Walmart money order, the woman reportedly went to the listed house and found that its owner knew nothing about the ad. Deputies were unable to find the person who placed the ad.

4:07 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge.

7:26 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a hit-and-run in the 18000 block of Colorado Highway 145. A man said someone had hit his car earlier that day and damaged its passenger side rear bumper and fender. The case remains under investigation.

Friday, April 6

3:15 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a controlled burn that had gotten out of control in the 14000 block of County Road 21. A woman said she was burning the area around her pond when the wind picked up and carried the fire east, where it burned up several fence posts and spread to her neighbor’s field. The fire was extinguished, and the woman’s neighbor did not press charges for property damage.

7:11 p.m.: Two men were arrested in the 20000 block of County Road G after their vehicle was pulled over for speeding. One of the men was arrested on a Cortez Police Department warrant for an open container violation, resisting arrest and being intoxicated in the roadway. While he was being arrested, deputies obtained permission to search the vehicle and found a non-commercial package of marijuana, a pipe containing meth residue, a straw containing meth, a passport with meth residue on the cover, a commercial package of marijuana from The Medicine Man dispensary and a small briefcase containing three packages of meth and a large amount of cash in small bills. The car’s driver was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, as well as speeding. In addition to the warrant, the male passenger was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and an open container of marijuana. A woman who was riding in the backseat was released.

10:58 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a missing child in the 22000 block of County Road 15. K9 Search and Rescue and the Cortez Police Department’s K9 officer helped in the search, although requests for helicopter assistance from San Juan County were denied. The child was found two hours after deputies were notified, and on-scene medics declared her to be in good health.

Saturday, April 7

5:52 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a one-vehicle traffic accident in the 22000 block of County Road 31. Medical personnel were called to treat the male driver, who reportedly had bloody arms and told deputies his teeth were broken. Deputies also put out a nearby campfire where several people had apparently been drinking. Colorado State Patrol troopers took over the crash investigation.

2 p.m.: A woman was cited on suspicion of driving without proof of insurance and speeding in the 34000 block of U.S. Highway 160 after she was pulled over for reportedly driving 92 mph in a 65 mph zone.

3:07 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on a warrant for failure to comply.

8:27 p.m.: Deputies assisted in responding to a brush fire in the 100 block of U.S. Highway 160. They helped with traffic control near Woody’s Gas Station and told the residents of a property threatened by the fire to leave the area. Although the fire was extinguished before it burned any buildings, the property owner later told deputies the fire had damaged 57 gaskets, 57 sprinkler nozzles, two sprinkler pipes, one irrigation swing pipe, three trees and one acre of hay fields, causing a total of at least $2,051.09 in damages. The fire also damaged a fence maintained by the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe.

Sunday, April 8

9:40 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear.

12:45 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear after he was turned in by a bail bond agent. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to intoxication.

Monday, April 9

4:26 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a bag found in the middle of the road in the 18000 block of Colorado Highway 145. The bag reportedly contained a label with a name and phone number, but when deputies contacted the man on the label, he said the bag wasn’t his. It was placed into evidence.

Tuesday, April 10

12:01 p.m.: Deputies assisted in responding to a report of a brush fire in the 25000 block of County Road G.15. A man claimed he had started a controlled burn in his field, hoping to eliminate overgrown grass before the Montezuma County burn ban goes into effect on April 16, and the wind had caused it to spread faster than he could control it. Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it damaged any structures.

2:53 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of fraud at the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office, 730 E. Driscoll St. A woman reported someone had hacked into her Facebook account and used it to change information on a business website connected to the account. She requested a case report be filed in case the hacker was able to retrieve any of her personal information.

Wednesday, April 11

9:17 a.m.: A woman was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear.

11:23 a.m.: A woman was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on three warrants for failure to appear.

11:49 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to comply.

1:20 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear.
