FARMINGTON – A new program is being developed at San Juan College after the educational institution and the company BayoTech signed a memorandum of understanding at the college’s June 1 board meeting.
San Juan College, which was named New Mexico’s Center of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Sustainability in 2019, will design the program for post-graduates as a credential program. The program is supposed to help support the hydrogen industry and will teach students how to safely and effectively work within the hydrogen industry.
“We are very excited to be working with San Juan College School of Energy on the development of this curriculum,” said BayoTech Chief Operating Officer Linh Austin in a news release. “As we expand, we have a growing need to hire a diverse, highly trained workforce to support the operation of BayoTech’s on-site hydrogen production systems throughout the U.S. and internationally.”
According to a news release from San Juan College spokeswoman Rhonda Schaefer, BayoTech is “an energy solutions company that offers modular, scalable and rapidly deployable on-site hydrogen production systems worldwide.”
BayoTech has a process where hydrogen can be produced at a lower cost and lower carbon emissions than diesel fuel, the release said.
“We are proud to partner with BayoTech to leverage our programs and provide another avenue for students to succeed in the exciting and rapidly evolving energy industry,” said SJC President Toni Hopper Pendergrass.
Schaefer said in the release that major employers throughout the nation recruit graduates for a variety of career pathways – from energy and manufacturing to production and operations – from the School of Energy at San Juan College.
Some other programs offered at San Juan College School of Energy are petroleum production operations, industrial maintenance mechanic, industrial process operator, occupational safety, instrumental and controls technology, and tribal energy management seminar series, according to the college’s website.
