Rotarians thank volunteers, donors

Rotary clubs grateful for support

In the calendar year of 2020/2021, the Durango High Noon Rotary would like to thank everyone who donated time, money, energy to these projects:

  • Pandemics Happen and Rotarians Serve
  • United Way/ Durango High Noon Rotary golf tournament to help local charities
  • Hospice of Mercy $1000 donation in honor of Mark Donahue
  • Donations to Manna Soup Kitchen in the amount of $1500
  • Donations to the Durango Food Bank in the amount of $1500
  • $4000 Donations to Feed the Front Lines
  • Salvation Army bell ringing volunteers in La Plata County
  • International projects: $5000 to Hospitalito Atitlan in Guatamala for medications and supplies
  • $1,800 and volunteers to deliver dictionaries to Durango School District 9-R third graders
  • Highway Cleanup volunteers
  • Community Grants of $7,000 to San Juan Mountaings Kids Program, Stillwater Music Youth Music Education Scholarships, Durango Botanic Gardens interpretive sign for Crevice Garden and Local First’s Feed the Front Lines program

The club awarded $24,500 in scholarships to high school seniors and college freshman, and for the paramedic scholarship sponsored by the Galbraith Trust.

  • Eight high school seniors were awarded academic scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, including three students from Durango, two from Mancos and three from Bayfield
  • Two high school seniors, from Durango and Bayfield, were awarded votech scholarships in the amount of $1,250 (sponsored by Tami Joslin).
  • Four college freshmen were awarded continuing scholarships of $1,500, including two students from Mancos, one from Durango and one from Ignacio
  • One man from Guatemala, who now lives in Durango with his wife, received the $2,000 paramedic scholarship

The board also approved $15,000 to support a community outreach mental health support van for the Durango Police Department.

The Alpine Bank Rotary Red Ball Express which has all four local clubs (The Rotary Club of Durango, The Daybreak Rotary Club of Durango, the High Noon Rotary Club of Durango and the Pine River Rotary Club of Bayfield) raised these funds for local non-profits.
