The School Community Youth Collaborative will host its first resource fair for youths and families from Montezuma and Dolores counties.

The Healthy Youth & Healthy Schools event targets people who are homeless, transitory or in the foster care system in the direction of community resources. The general public also is invited.

The event, billed as a spring carnival, includes recreational activities at each booth as well as giveaways and food.

Local nonprofits will share their resources and services, including education, mental health, employment and physical well-being.

Participants include the Piñon Project, Montelores Early Childhood Council, Pueblo Community College and Fozzie’s Farm.

According to SCYC there will be about 25 booths.

SCYC also received a $500 donation from Daughters of the American Revolution to provide free books for attendees.

Some of the activities offered include mini golf, cornhole, karaoke, and making bird feeders.

Prizes donated by local businesses will be given away. Attendees will increase their chances of winning a prize by visiting as many booths as they can.

“I think it’s amazing how many services we have and how much they’re needed,” said Angela Adams, SCYC coordinator for high schools. “Connecting people with those services where they actually know they exist and utilize them is of supreme importance.”

Funding for the event comes from the Colorado Department of Education.

The event will be on the field at Southwest Open High School on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
